At Halswell School it is our priority to care for your children to ensure that they thrive. Our students learn in a nurturing environment where school staff are actively engaged with them and their whānau.
We believe that student wellbeing is essential for both academic and social development. We aim to provide our students with a safe, supportive and respectful learning environment.
We take a planned approach to student wellbeing which includes explicit teaching across the school. Our staff support students to develop skills that help them to strengthen their relationships, build positive emotions, enhance personal resilience, promote mindfulness and encourage each student to thrive.

Our wellbeing approach is woven through a range of practices:
- PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) – building a strong, respectful school culture where positive choices are taught, modelled and celebrated.
- Positive Education – fostering strengths, resilience and a growth mindset so learners can flourish academically, socially and emotionally.
- Restorative Practices – repairing relationships and growing understanding through respectful dialogue, reflection and problem-solving.
- Nurture Programme – providing a safe, supportive space for students who need extra help to feel settled, connected and ready to learn.
- Listening to Families – a video and podcast series, where whānau voices are shared.
